Project Description

Quarles & Brady engaged Energy Associates and Metal Forensics as consultants to advise and assist in their representation of Salt River Project (SRP) in connection with a dispute by SRP against BRUKS Rockwood/Rockwood Materials Handling.  Case No. 2:2013cv01519 was filed by SRP on July 26, 2013 in Arizona District Court for Breach of Contract.

The coal handling system for Unit No. 4 has two (2) radial stacker/scraper reclaimers, which were experience operating problems and component failures.  The scraper reclaimer of one machine is seen above/left.  The general arrangement of the system is seen below.

Energy Associates examined design drawings and other technical data, visited the Springerville Station to view this equipment and interviewed operating/maintenance personnel, and observed the equipment in the operating mode.  Initial observations on the available information and a list of additional documents to be provided by BRUKS were prepared.  Follow-up tasks after the site visit included a teleconference call to confirm field observations and assessments.  This dispute was settled by the parties themselves on October 13, 2014.
