Project Description

Burns & Roe Company utilized Daniel Mahr for vendor/Contractor reviews including the detail engineering, design drawing submittals, and the special-team site inspection for the coal handling system of Units 7 & 8 of the Paiton Plant. This addition to the site complex consists of the two 700 MW units and a complete, independent coal receiving, storage, and reclaim system. Coal is received from either geared or self-unloader ocean going vessels. The dock consists of two berths, each equipped with four traveling hoppers. The picture of the dock below is a geared vessel unloading into one of the dock hoppers. In addition, there is a separate bin for self-unloader vessel receipts. The yard includes two stacker/reclaimers with bypass gates. The system includes an emergency reclaim hopper, crushers, dust collectors, belt scales, sampling systems, etc. Below is a view of the plant from the Unit 7&8 coalyard during construction. Units 7 & 8 are on the right. The four stacks are for Units No. 1, 2, 5&6, and 7&8. Units 5&6 are also under construction and have a separate coalyard, as do Units No. 1 and 2. Units 3&4 are not constructed.
