Project Description

The Port of San Lorenzo is located on the Rio Parana at kilometer 446.  It is operated by the Argentina Association of Cooperatives, Ltda.  As an investor in a major modification of the grain handling facilities of the port, Mitsubishi International Corporation requested that the Tender Documents be independently reviewed.  A technical review of the proposed equipment and structures was completed.

The new facilities are designed to adapt an existing grain shiploading berth to import and unload fertilizer from geared vessels.  New berth structures and traveling hoppers are added to accommodate the vessels.  System capacity is 400 tph on 800 mm wide conveyors handling urea, DAP, and potash.  The complex includes a series of elevated conveyors and large enclosed storage building.  Review comments included an assessment on the proposed design of the new receiving structures that require an important modification to handle the loads that would be imposed upon this design.  The wharf part of this development is seen in the illustration.
