Project Description
Energy Associates was engaged by Han-Padron Associates to assist on ACBL's
Orinoco Terminal Development. This
terminal was conceived to be a multi-bulk commodity export facility on the
Orinoco River in Venezuela.
Commodities are delivered to the terminal via truck, rail, conveyor, and
barge. The terminal stores
commodities to accumulate shipload consignments and balance seasonal
fluctuations. Ships are loaded using high capacity modern equipment. Principal products include HBI (Hot Briquetted
Iron) briquettes, bauxite, copper ore concentrates, and slag.
As part of this project
development work, Energy Associates completed the initial conceptual and
preliminary engineering work. Assignments included facility layout, capital
cost estimates, Master Plan, 3-D CAD model of the facility and 2-D renderings,
and a preliminary environmental assessment. The HBI briquettes are a high
quality product for the steel industry. They are, however, relatively fragile
and degradation is a concern. To mitigate the degradation problems experienced
by other facilities, Energy Associates conceived a unique softload
shiploader that gently discharges HBI briquettes into
ocean going vessels.
