Project Engineer in the Equipment Group

Responsible for specifying and procuring material handling equipment. This includes: belt conveyor components, bucket elevators, chain and screw conveyors, air slides and pertinent blowers and fans, packaging installations and their pertinent facilities and rotary feeders and airlocks. The work involved contacts with vendors and customers with the aim of synchronizing the customer's specifications with vendor's quotes. Responsible for equipment procurement during the various phases of quotation, ordering, quote evaluation, purchasing, engineering approval, and follow-up for compliance with the specified data and reconciliation of discrepancies. Coordinated/disseminated technical data to the electrical, structural or other specialties involved in the engineering disciplines. In the final project phase, Mr. Balanean was responsible for preparation of the operation and maintenance manuals complete the documentation submitted to the customer. Representative projects include the Nusantara, Cibinong, and Bosowa-Maros Cement Plants, which are all in Indonesia.

Managed engineering and product development including customizing conveyor idlers and polyurethane screen decks, analyzing component failures, applying new designs, and integrating product development services with industry standards and customer needs.

POWER-TECH ASSOCIATES
Mechanical Project Engineer

Participated in a Definitional Mission to Indonesia, funded by the U.S. Trade Development Agency (TDA) and a coal handling study for Tampa Electric Company, Gannon Station. The TDA mission identified local projects in the energy field that could stimulate U.S. equipment and technology exports to Indonesia. The coal handling study investigated improvements including the ship unloading facilities, yard storage facilities, coal bunkers inside the plant, ball mills, classifiers and the coal pipes to the bunkers. The study included system analysis, cost/benefit evaluation, and recommendations.

GILBERT/COMMONWEALTH
Project Engineer, Materials Handling

Responsible for several coal handling and FGD conveyor system assignments. Representative projects include:
· NYSEG, Milliken Station - Participated in the initial phases of establishing the flow diagram and siting of the limestone and gypsum handling facilities of the FGD system for the project.
· BG&E, C.P. Crane Station - Responsible for the coal handling system portion a study on the impact of switching to burning eastern low sulfur coal for compliance with the Clean Air Act of 1990. Examined modifications required for the existing coal handling facilities.
· PP&L, Brunner Island Station - Responsible for a study and recommendation on solving tramp iron removal problems.
· Duquesne Light Company, Phillips Station - Responsible for a coal handling system rehabilitation. The work included selectively removing and replacing system components and assemblies, proposal and evaluation of upgraded emission controls. The assignment included the preparation of mechanical specifications, facility layout, consolidation of the turnkey specification, and coordinating the estimates.
· Commonwealth Edison Co., Kincaid Station - Responsible for the plant retrofit arrangement and developing the proposed limestone/gypsum handling facilities of the FGD System.
· Eastman Kodak, Rochester, N.Y. - Responsible for the coal handling facility layout, technical description, and coordinating the structural, electrical and architectural disciplines.

WILLIS AND PAUL GROUP
Project Engineer

Responsible for layout, engineering, specification and bid evaluation of equipment related to bulk materials handling facilities. Supervised engineering and drafting personnel. Project assignments include:
· CONOCO, West Lake, Louisiana - Green coke handling system, consisting of an underground truck dump facility and associated reclaim equipment including forced ventilation, future dust collection, water level controls, etc.
· General Electric, Erie, Pennsylvania - Coal handling system consisting of a truck dump, storage facilities with reclaim belt feeders and associated conveyors to take the coal to an expanded crusher building with new ring granulators and reversible hammermills. The system also included improved dust collection facilities, an upgrade the existing storage and handling facilities in the bunker area of the power plant.

M. MELNICK& CO., INC.
Construction Superintendent

Provided field supervision and coordination for all trades; scheduled subcontractor's work; and monitored the compliance with design documents, schedules, and costs. The project was a 130 residential unit, ten-story structure. It was constructed on a pile foundation and used prestressed plank concrete floors and concrete block bearing walls.

EBASCO SERVICES, INC.
Engineer in the Special Analysis Group

Completed stress analysis of electrical junction boxes and conduit supports using the finite element analysis method. The work involved modeling the structure, coding and running the Stardyne and Dynre 4 programs. Project: Comanche Peak Unit 2 of Texas Utilities Generating Company (TUGCO).

SARGENT &LUNDY ENGINEERS
Project Engineer, Mechanical Materials Handling Division

Responsible for the engineering, start-up, and subsequent monitoring of the operation of coal handling facilities. Range of activities include feasibility and site selection studies, definition of general scope of work and basic engineering parameters, preparation of project and equipment specifications, cost evaluations, evaluation of vendor proposals, and preparation of recommendations. Major projects include:
· Commonwealth Edison Co., Collins Power Station - Coal conversion from high to low sulfur.
· Commonwealth Edison Co., Powerton Station - Western low sulfur coal conversion.

ROBERTS & SCHAFFER COMPANY
Design Engineer

Responsible for the engineering and layout of coal preparation plants including coal and refuse handling facilities. Range of activities include:
1. Preliminary engineering consisting of site selection, definition of scope of work, system conceptualization and evaluation;
2. Equipment selection (process equipment such as pumps, filters, thickeners and classifiers, dense media separators, etc.);
3. Client and vendor negotiations, site inspections, spec writing, etc.; and
4. Contractual aspects consisting of detailed layout of the facilities, negotiations with equipment manufacturers, resolution of field problems, etc.
Major projects include:-
· ARCO, West Virginia - Coal preparation plant
· McKinley Mine, Gallup, N.M - Coal handling facilities
· Engineering the relocation of a coal preparation plant from Oklahoma to Pennsylvania

MACDONALD ENGINEERING CO.
Design Engineer

Responsible engineering, design, and construction of cement plants facilities. Assignments included plant layout, equipment selection (dust collection, conveyors of various types, transfer points layout, etc.) and coordination with other disciplines.

BOYNTON ENGINEERS
Design Engineer

Responsible for engineering on the modernization of the teaming ladle maintenance facilities at Inland Steel's Plant No.2. The work involved plant layout work and equipment selection.

Responsible for layout and engineering of a subway expansion for the city of Vienna

Project Engineer

Provided engineering and design services for custom iron ore sintering equipment for blast furnace, steel mill auxiliary facilities at the Galati Metallurgical Complex in Romania. Responsibilities consisted of engineering, design and follow-up through the manufacturing, fabrication, field installation, and start-up.
