Project Description
Han-Padron Associates engaged Energy Associates to support their design engineering
efforts on the Amtrak Northend Electrification Project. As part of the rail
electrification of the north corridor, both swing and bascule bridges are
encountered on this rail line. A unique structural support system for the
electrical contract wires, negative feeder wire, and messenger wire was
required. In addition, limitations were imposed on the design due to the
requirement for galvanizing all steel. Steel sections and fabricated trusses
must be within the size requirements of commercial the galvanizing tank
dimensions. The primary Contractor (Balfour Beatty Construction and Mass.
Electric Construction, J.V.) required that the erection and shop fabrication
drawings be completed with the engineering drawings. Energy Associates assisted
Han-Padron by completing the structural steel erection and shop fabrication
drawings.
