Project Description
Energy Associates was engaged to assist Han-Padron Associates on ACBL's Orinoco
Terminal Development. This terminal will be a bulk commodity export facility on
the Orinoco River in Venezuela. Commodities will be delivered to the terminal
via truck, rail, conveyor, and barge. The terminal will store commodities to
accumulate shipload consignments and balance seasonal fluctuations. Ships will
be loaded using high capacity modern equipment. Principal products will include
HBI (Hot Briquetted Iron) briquettes, bauxite, copper ore concentrates, and
slag.
As part of this project development work,
Energy Associates completed the initial conceptual and preliminary engineering
work. Assignments included facility layout, capital cost estimates, Master
Plan, 3-D CAD model of the facility and 2-D renderings, and a preliminary
environmental assessment. The HBI briquettes are a high quality product for the
steel industry. They are, however, relatively fragile and degradation is a
concern. To mitigate the degradation problems experienced by other facilities,
Energy Associates is developing a unique softload shiploader that will gently
discharge HBI briquettes into ocean going vessels.
